Flying with Restube

With these tips you can take Restube with you on the plane

Are you planning a trip by plane and want to take your Restube with you? No problem! Restube can be taken on the plane. However, there are a few things to keep in mind. We have compiled all the information you need to make sure your Restube arrives safely at its destination.

RESTUBE AND CO2 CARTRIDGES IN THE LUGGAGE

The original RESTUBE CO2 cartridges contain 16g or 10.9g CO2 and are pressurised. Therefore, they are considered “dangerous goods” in air transport.

The Australian Government Civil Aviation Safety Authority Australian (CASA), permits you to fly with no more than four CO2 cartridges (non-flammable gas cartridges) as carry-on baggage. Each cartridge can have a maximum weight of 28g or 50ml of water capacity per cartridge. You must declare them during check-in and comply with airline restrictions.

Key points to remember:

  • Check with your airline: Always verify the specific rules and limitations regarding CO2 cartridges with your chosen airline as regulations may slightly vary.
  • Limited quantity: Most airlines permit a maximum of four CO2 cartridges per passenger.
  • Cartridge size restrictions: Each cartridge must be within the specified weight or volume limit, usually around 28g or 50ml.
  • Declaration required: You must declare your CO2 cartridges when checking in at the airport.
  • Use case: CO2 cartridges are typically allowed for items like self-inflating life jackets where a small number of cartridges are needed for functionality. Please seperate the CO2 cartridge from the Restube.

Restube itself - without its CO2 cartridges - can be carried on an aircraft without restrictions or special transport requirements.

Although it is an official regulation, not all ground staff are aware of it. To help you fly with your cartridges, here are some important tips for you. Read through the steps, stick to them, and then everything should be fine! We recommend that you put Restube in your checked luggage, as the staff checking the luggage are often better trained than the staff at the security checkpoint.

Important tips

- Contact the airline before departure
Declare your Restube, including the number of CO2 cartridges, to the airline by phone. Either directly after booking or at least 48h before departure. Ask the airline for a written confirmation (e.g. by e-mail) and carry a copy with you.

- Transport Restube and the CO2 cartridges separately
Carefully open the flap and take the buoy out of the bag without releasing it. Then unscrew the CO2 cartridge from the restube.

- Store CO2 cartridges, information, and your Restube with unscrewed cartridge together in a transparent bag
According to IATA, up to two CO2 cartridges per Restube may be carried on an aircraft. Keep the CO2 cartridges with the information flyer “Flying with Restube” – you will find it in every RESTUBE package and also here (Restube beach 10,9g cartridges or all other Restubes with 16g cartridges) – as well as the information from the LBA or TSA in a plastic bag with a seal that is clearly visible. Also include the confirmation from the airline.
